Here's
a forgotten old Raleigh Grand Prix converted to a singlespeed.
I
replaced the wheels with Weinmann RM19s laced to generic hubs. The
old cranks were bent, so I installed some Bulletproof 170 mm BMX
thingies. Cheap BMX pedals. BMX chain. Nitto Dream bars with Cane
Creek levers on the original stem, which is stuck. Gray cotton tape.
Cheap Tioga cyclocross tires. Original Weinmann brakes. Vetta saddle.
Running 42x18 and it's a blast.
My
other bike is a Rivendell Quickbeam. I find that this bike is a
little more nimble, but not as comfortable over 45 minutes. Great
for riding to the coffee shop or some light cyclocross. I suppose
it's a beater bike to some people. Whatever, I love it.
