Cyclofiend.com: Handbmade Bicycle Shows: Portland Handmade Bicycle Show 2006 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This photo set provided by Ken Mattina Show Notes: Hi All, I went to the BIG SHOW in my adopted home town of Portland, Oregon last night and thought that I'd give some impressions for those who are interested. The show took place at City Hall, which I think shows that the city is serious about promoting the local bicycle industry. Parked outside were plenty of rusty old bikes and some not so rusty. When I first went inside, my first impression was how crowded and noisy the place was. Kind of like a grade school cafeteria. Everyone was smiling and enjoying themselves. Plenty of young people too. Not just old farts like me. All of the royalty of the Portland bicycle industry were there. Plus a bunch of new kids on the block. There were 2 or 3 builders that I wasn't familiar with and it was nice to see their work. Highlights included an astonishing coupled touring bike by Sacha White, a randonneur bike from Tony Pereira, and a mixte from Ira Ryan that my wife loved, My personal favorites were the custom racks made by Joseph Ahearne. I hope you all will forgive me for the fawning sentiments, but these guys have a gift and it's difficult not to speak in hyperbole. Here is a review and a bunch of photos. http://bikeportland.org/2006/07/07/city-hall-surrenders-to-cycling-scene/ I took some photos and Jim Cyclofiend has graciously offered to host them. Hopefully I will get them posted later today. Ken (Sorry it took a while folks - lotsa stuff on the plate this weekend... - Jim)
