Here
is my 1981 J-spec Miyata 1000.
The
Miyata 1000 is considered to be one of the finest touring bikes
ever built and I can see nothing to disprove that statement. It's
like being with an old friend - it feels comfortable, relaxing and
you forget about time when you're with it. I tried to stay true
to the original spirit of the bike while heeding the wise words
of Grant Petersen, so most parts are vintage 1981 except for the
tubes/tires, the front derailuer, the saddle, pedals, cables/housing,
chain, cloth bar tape and any accessories. I spend probably close
to 80 hours rebuilding everything from the frame up this winter
in my small jr. one bedroom apartment (except for the bottom bracket
and the headset, which I plan on rebuilding them at a later date).
I also used quality greases that were made for specific purposes
(such as rock n' roll's web grease for the hubs, the supercoat for
the stems, Boeshield for the frame, prolube for the chain and beeswax
for any threads). I have provided full specifications of the parts
and the county in parenthesis denotes the county of origin. I took
the photos using a Nikon D200 and a combination of a 28mm f/2.8
AIS lens and a 50mm f/1.8S AIS lens. Most of the scenes come from
the Tidal Basin in Washington DC, during the first week of April
2007 - right when the sakura (cherry blossoms) were in bloom. Any
feedback is appreicated.
