This is the first single speed I've put together and the frame does have some history, at least with the group I used to ride with. The first guy in my group who owned it got it second hand and converted it to a fully decked out Campy Record road bike with a 5 speed freewheel back in the early 80's. He road it on the road with us for a number of years before giving up cycling due to injury. He gave it to another of our group who road it a bit in the late 80's and hung it in his basement where it stayed until about a week ago. I purchased the frame from his widow, because not only did I know some of the history of it, but one of my best Bud's had it before he died and I didn't want to see it go to just anybody. My intent was to return it to original track bike status, but I really liked the old high flange 5 spd Campy hubs and I didn't want to switch them out. The compromise was a single speed instead of the fixie, which in my view, is more practical for me anyway.
