Here
is my vintage Italian Steel cyclocross single speed.
The
frame is a mid 1980s Basso, made in Italy with Columbus tubing.
It has tight track bike like chainstays (390 mm), maybe too tight
for cx-ing but the cross tires fit (haha, barely)..... it's extremely
responsive, quick to accelerate.... it's actually very stable too.....
It
spins on vintage Campagnolo Record wheels, 20+ years old but spin
smoother than some modern wheels I have. It is shown in picture
with a freewheel geared at 42 X 18, but I also throw on a track
wheelset sometimes and go fixed gear style. It has vintage dura
ace road brakes, cane creek cross levers, vintage cinelli handle
bars and vintage cinelli stem .... selle italia flite seat.... running
700 X 30 c cross tires for the trails in the presidio and golden
gate park in San Francisco........ it's perfect for days when I
need to see some nature and get away from city life.... but don't
want to throw my cross country bike in the car and head to trails.
It's
very fun..... and very fast.....
