Schwinn World Voyageur
This
project started as a bare frameset I purchased from ebay. I was
reluctant to buy a frame from someone who took a perfectly good
bicycle apart to sell piece by piece so they could get more money
out of it. I decided that the fate of the frame would be my cause
and made the bid. With parts from ebay, friends, and local bike
shops I completed this build.
Although
the bike predates the guideline of 1978 I feel, IMHO, that it is
still a Current Classic because I look forward to putting many miles
on this bike here in Colorado when going fast or serious climbing
aren't important.
Frameset:
1973 Schwinn World Voyageur (built by Panasonic)
Wheelset: First generation Dura Ace hubs and Sun Ringle CR18 700
X 22.5mm rims, Panaracer Pasela 700 X 28C tires
Crankset: First Generation Dura Ace 52/42
Fenders: Wald
Derailleurs: Second generation Dura Ace EX.
Converted from 5 speed to 6 speed - the frame was originally made
at 126mm rear spacing making it easy to add another cog
Brakes: Second generation Dura Ace EX (non-aero) levers and Tektro
Extra Long Reach calipers (needed for converting from 27ä to 700C
wheels)
Saddle: Brooks B-17 and SR Laprade seatpost
Steering: Nitto B-177 Noodle bars and Nitto Technomic stem, Brooks
