Here's my 1989 Spectrum custom road bike. It's made mostly with
Ishiwata tubing. The chainstays were huge for the era, but the rest
of the bike is more or less normal. The original color was blood
red; in 2004, after about 35k miles, it needed repainting and refitting
so it could take contemporary components, so I sent it back to Tom
Kellogg.
I
chose a deep metallic black (you can barely see it sparkle in the
photos) so it would be easier to touch up, but I think I overdid
the black stuff. I really wanted red graphics, but Tom didn't have
them, so he made stencils--that's paint! what a flawless job he
did of both the frameset and the repaint.
These
photographs were take on Manhattan's Upper West Side in Riverside
Park. While I've raced this bike, I use it mostly for fun rides.
I can't imagine ever parting with it.
Components
include:
2004 Shimano Ultegra 9-speed
Ritchey bar/stem
Thomson seatpost
Velomax Circuit Comp wheels--as good as they get for the money.
Selle Italia Flite saddle
Shimano Dura-Ace pedals
Whipperman stainless steel chain--2x as expensive but lasts 4x as
long!!
