BOBish On A Budget Or Blasphemous Beast?

I bought this old Terranaut on eBay. Nice Ishiwata tube set, but cheesy components.

I was struck by a vision. I wanted to make the closest thing to a 68cm XO-1 that I could, but I did not have an XO-1 sized budget. I searched eBay, Nashabar and all my vintage groups to find the components I needed to build the frame up per my vision.
