North American Handmade Bicycle Show 2007 / townsend01

Townsend track frame with wooden rims. Don't know what the dangling cork is for, though.

Update 3/5 - The Cork Mystery Explained:

you wondered what the cork dangling from the seat was for...

old timers used wine corks to hold the ends of their bar tape in place. in racing if you start to crack, it could be said that you were beginning to unravel... therefore, it became a tradition to carry an extra cork as shown on this bike, so metaphorically, you always had 'something extra' to keep yourself from unravelling on a ride.

i think this was started by ted ernst of the southbay wheelmen, but i could be wrong.

cheers, randy dugan
